The first 8k gaming GPU lives up to its reputation; RTX 3090 is Nvidia’s new flagship graphics card, allowing gamers to play their favorite games at 8k resolution if supported by the game. 8K graphics cards are still niche, and they might stay that way for a long time or at least till RTX 3090 has a competitor. On the other hand, 4k gaming will become more popular as manufacturers start making displays with HDMI 2.1 ports, which provide a 60+ Hz in-game experience at 4k resolution. It will still take a long time for people to prefer 4k over HD. Despite all of the arguments over 4k displays, graphics cards can deliver 4 times more pixels than 4k in a playable fashion. However, this does not mean everyone can play games at 8K without any hindrance. First of all, you need a graphics card capable of running games at 8k resolution. This is hard to achieve as these graphics cards are very expensive. You might be craving to play games at the highest possible resolution; these high-end games demand a lot from the GPU and CPU. For instance, the new and most awaited Cyberpunk 2077 is one of the most demanding games in the market. This new title requires a powerful combo of CPU and GPU even to run smoothly enough. Cyberpunk 2077 might also be unstable even at high-end computers; this is mostly a development issue.
If you have a solid build, you should face fewer bugs and problems in the game. If you are an enthusiast for 8k gaming, well, Cyberpunk 2077 supports 8k resolution. To enjoy the magnificence of 8k gaming, you must have a top-notch pc; playing at high resolution drops the FPS, which might annoy most pc gamers. If you have an RTX 3090, though, running the most awaited title should not be a problem for you. All it requires is a decent combo of an RTX 3090 with an excellent CPU like the I9-10900k. Even if you have a prime computer, you might not be able to enjoy the glory of 8k; you also need to have an 8K supported monitor to see the game at 8k resolution.
Suppose you have covered all the essential requirements for playing the newest games at 8K; you are thinking about playing Cyberpunk 2077 at 8k. You will be more than pleased to hear this. Nvidia’s new flagship GPU is capable of running the game at 8k resolution at 31 FPS. Every gamer loves FPS; as we all know, 30 FPS is the playable amount of FPS required. Being able to run Cyberpunk 2077 at 8k resolution is just impressive; the game is immensely demanding. It requires a lot of power, even to function properly. It was seen how the performance was on the PS4, which was a warning for most players who had old systems. If you want to play Cyberpunk at 8k resolution on 30 FPS, you should turn on the DLSS. DLSS (Deep Learning Super Sampling) was set to Ultra Performance in the game. This enabled the testers to achieve 31 FPS even with Ray Tracing enabled; all the graphical settings were also set to Ultra. In other words, the testers took the most powerful GPU and tested the most demanding game with every setting on the maximum with ray tracing enabled; after all, it’s the most powerful graphics card in the market.
TweakTown performed this test. The build they tested all this on featured an I9-10900k and Z490 motherboard, obviously with the RTX 3090. Even if the RTX 3090 cannot play the game at maximum settings with stable FPS, which GPU is? The interesting part is that the GPU failed to produce more than 7 FPS with DLSS off. Intriguing, isn’t it? The most powerful GPU failed to provide even 10 FPS in Cyberpunk with DLSS set to off. The same GPU provides 31 FPS at the same resolution in the same game with the same CPU but with DLSS on. The DLSS setting is like a blessing for gamers; Nvidia’s newest and hottest graphics card lived up to its name. If you want to play the game at even more FPS, disabling ray tracing will enable the GPU to produce around 38 FPS, this was also tested by TweakTown.
TweakTown also reviewed that the 24Gbs of memory on the RTX 3090 is not enough to play Cyberpunk at 8k resolution with everything set on maximum. Only disabling ray tracing allows the in-game memory allocation to drop to 21Gbs. This shows exactly how demanding Cyberpunk 2077 is. So if you were looking around for a Cyberpunk 2077 test on the RTX 3090, that’s everything you needed to know. If you were thinking about purchasing an RTX 3090 to play the game at 8k resolution with the graphical setting all set on maximum. Keep in mind you need a powerful combo to run the game at those settings. At least consider an I9-10900k if you want to play it at 8k with everything on maximum because a solid CPU is just as important as GPU. Also, even if you have a top-notch computer and can play the game at 8K, you still might not have a true 8k experience because to see the game in 8k, you need an 8k monitor, which is not common these days.
Consider everything in your set-up before you try to play Cyberpunk 2077 at 8k resolution, as it sure might be your dream but don’t tear your build apart to achieve it. And as mentioned before, it is a very demanding game, and many things can change your experience in the world of 8K gaming.
